Can it be just as good as the Golf Sport?

Volkswagen Golf

Brilliant. If you're looking for a word that best describe the Golf Sport, that certainly is it. You see, what Volkswagen has done, particularly in its sixth iteration is to better the quality, give it a slightly more mature look and best of all, provide small but potent lumps.

And that's an advantage here in Singapore, where the roads tax and insurance premium are relegated solely on the engine capacity. The Golf, since its launch a few months back, has been getting rave reviews and ultimately, good sales numbers - try having all first three shipments snapped up as quickly as fresh donuts...

I was the first few to sample the Golf back then, and I walked away from the Volkswagen showroom thinking "this has to be the best understated family hatchback money can buy for now". Then very recently, I spent an entire week punting the same car up North, accumulating some 1,500km and getting to experience just how amazingly this particular car handles - even at 210km/h (ok, I'm now very certain some of you Golf owners are thinking of trying it for yourself, right? ). Oh yes, it return ridiculously good fuel efficiency as well.

So impressed, I am very certain this will be my next car.

But hold on first - like some of you, the recent rise in the COE (how rude of the LTA) jacked the price tag of the Golf Sport too close to the psychological $100k price barrier. Now that made me think twice about buying it - after all, forking so much money just doesn't make sense.

Volkswagen then fought back - they handed me this base Golf you're seeing here, instead.

Ya, turbocharged 1.4 produces 122bhp, twin-charged 1.4 produces 160bhp. Anyway, i still think the new Golf is ugly.

even thought the acronym "TSI" is shared and both are 1.4 litre engine
block, the two engine are different.

the base TSI only comes with a turbocharger while the 1.4 twincharger TSI comes with both a super and a turbocharger, hence the 10k difference

Weird?! Why VW market with same 1.4 TSI and 1.4 Twin Charger yet different for 10k? Any spec different between two? I still can't different it...

I've just sold my golf 1.6Fsi (the previous model). It was a good car until I had a problem and deal with the after sales. Had to indent my door lock and my wife had to sit behind for 2 weeks...

I prefer the look of the previous Golf.
308 turbo has a smoother engine i suppose, because i think it's really creamy smooth when revving it.
