Graced by Mrs Lim Hwee Hua, Minister, Prime Minister's Office and Second Minister for Finance and Transport, the event would be followed by a month of exciting race-related activities at the airport to celebrate the Singapore GP Season. Running from 5th to 30th September 2009, highlights of the Festival include a go-kart station right at the airport.
Minister Lim said, "The line-up of race-related activities right here at Changi Airport will enhance the unique Changi experience. Beyond being an efficient airport, Changi Airport will be showcased as an exciting venue for passengers and the public."
Passengers and airport visitors can also experience the excitement and adrenalin-pumping action of working in a pit stop at the Pit-Stop Challenge game station. Located at Terminal 3's Departure Hall (Row 11) and Terminal 2's Departure/Transit Mall, participants can challenge each other to clock the fastest time to complete a set of pitstop activities, such as changing the front and back tyres, re-fuelling and using a hydraulic jack lift.
Competitions will be held from 5pm to 10pm daily, with prizes to be won.
For those who prefer on-the-track action, go-karting will be available at Terminal 3's Carpark 3A. Open to all above six years of age, a two-lap race is free with every $20 spent at Changi Airport in a single receipt. Racing consoles featuring a Grand Prix circuit will also be available at the Departure/Transit Malls of all three terminals and Terminal 3's Departure Hall (Row 11).
And to add celebrity power to the Changi GP Festival, McLaren F1 driver Heikki Kovalainen will make a special appearance at Changi Airport on 23rd September 2009. Further details will be announced at a later date.
Chief Executive Officer of Changi Airport Group, Mr Lee Seow Hiang said, "The Changi GP Festival is about celebrating Singapore's GP season, and bringing the excitement of the race closer to our passengers and airport visitors. This is part of our on-going effort to deliver memorable experiences and happy memories at Changi. We welcome everyone to join us in this celebration."
