A man in China hired a trio of men to batter his Maserati Quattroporte. This display of outrage comes after the man was displeased with the car dealer which he got the car from. The car, which was worth almost half a million dollars, was hammered with sledgehammers. The end result? A ‘slightly’ bruised body and smashed windows.

The owner of the Quattroporte , identified only as Wang, chose to destroy the luxury vehicle at the Qingdao International Auto Show on Tuesday. He claimed that the dealer replaced malfunctioning parts in his vehicle with used parts. He also accuses the dealer and his insurance company of fraud. By destroying the Italian sports saloon in front of an international crowd during the motor show, he aimed to send a strong message across to the foreign manufacturers-the Chinese consumer should have the rights to receive the same treatment as consumers from elsewhere around the world.

LTA has announced that with the opening of the new Marina Coastal Expressway later this year, some ERP gantries along ECP and within the CBD area will be adjusted. However, ERP rates and operation hours will remain unchanged.

This was revealed when Transport Minister, Lui Tuck Yew, visited the work site of the new Marina Coastal Expressway yesterday morning.

Marina Coastal Expressway (MCE) will be Singapore's 10th expressway and is 5 kilometres long.

According to LTA, the MCE will become the main route for motorists travelling between the ECP and KPE in the East and the AYE in the West.

With the three engineering priorities "Intelligent Drive", "Efficient Technology" and "Essence of Luxury", the new S-Class extends the boundaries of technology on many levels. The S-Class is not just a technological spearhead for Mercedes-Benz but for automotive development as a whole.

As with every generation before it, customers expect the new S-Class to set standards across the board to retain its accolade as "the best automobile in the world". Dr Dieter Zetsche, Chairman of the Board of Management of Daimler AG and Head of Mercedes-Benz Cars:

"Rather than being about safety or aesthetics, power or efficiency, comfort or dynamism, our aspirations were 'the best or nothing' in every respect. No other car stands for the Mercedes-Benz brand promise more than the S-Class."

If you are looking to buy a second car in the near future, you should act fast. The government announced today that it is considering imposing a surcharge for the second car owned by the same person.

This will be in addition to the amount you pay for the COE. The government hopes this move will spread out car ownership more evenly considering the limited supply of COEs.

If this surcharge goes through, it will not apply to owners who already have multiple cars.

The Government is currently reviewing the COE system. They will look into two main areas- the classification of high end and mass market models, as well as the reclassification of cars based on engine power. The comments were made by Transport Minister, Mr Lui Tuck Yew, when he paid a visit to the Marina Coastal Expressway project site.

The review comes after concerns regarding the current buying trend caused by the new loan regulations; more than 1/3rd of the vehicles purchased in this period were high end cars, compared to less than 7% in the same period in 2010. It is hoped that after the review,  the categorisation of Category A and B COE would be refined.

Engine power is another criteria that the LTA is looking into.

Used car dealers are expecting poor sales after the lift of the temporary loan curb. With the lift of the curbs, many car dealers are slashing their prices in an attempt to clear their stocks. One such dealer is Carway Enterprise; the dealer has cleared 28 cars of his old stocks, with 12 remaining. Dealers are looking to break-even with this batch of cars.

The rapid sales are not a sign of what to come though; the future remains uncertain as different dealers are speculating different outcomes for the market at the end of the period. During this period, many buyers are “lowballing” in hope of getting a better deal, with some asking up to $10,000 below the asking price. Mr Raymond Tang, Secretary of the Singapore Vehicle Traders Association, said that used cars dealers are generally worried that they may not able to get rid of their old stocks.
