The next time you are driving behind a Jaguar XF, have a good stare at its rump. Don’t you think it has one of the sexiest rump of any car in production today, Italian exotica included? Well, at least I reckon so, this despite the fact that the XF having been around since 2008 - everything about the XF’s rear just looks so proportionate, so resolved. I just like the way the sloping rear screen elegantly meets the boot line among other details.
The rest of the XF doesn’t look shabby as well – the coupe-like profile gives it an elegant feel, the bonnet bulges and the power vents on the front wings shout muscle and the radiator grille is a nice modern interpretation of Jaguar tradition. We have to thank Ian Callum for the XF’s evocative looks and its gorgeous looking rump. The Brit has already given us greats like the Aston Martin DB7 and DB9 and he now works his magic wand on Coventry’s finest cars.
With such handsome looks, you’d think that it would be a mammoth task for Jaguar’s designers to add new and refreshing touches to the XF’s looks for the facelifted model four years after the original car’s launch. Well, the updated model is now here and I can say that it looks even better than the original model thanks to its facelifted front and rear end styling while retaining the original car’s overall silhouette and profile. The new nose features a new bumper, radiator grille and slimmer headlamps with integrated LED daytime running lamps arrange in what Jaguar calls a ‘J-blade’ pattern to bring the XF’s looks more in line with the larger XJ flagship’s while the rear features wider LED tail lamps that further accentuates the XF’s width and muscularity when viewed from behind. New alloy wheels round up the exterior changes on the new XF.
In addition to the 3.0 petrol, XFS diesel and the XFR, Jaguar has added a fourth variant to the XF line-up in Singapore – a new entry-level oil burner in the form of the 2.2D. The different XF variants can be distinguished from each other via their different alloy wheel designs and sizes as well as the design of the lower air intakes on their front bumpers. Obviously, the hot 510bhp XFR adds go faster bits like bonnet vents and so on.
