Introduction & Exterior

Hyundai did a good job in pressing out shoulders along the side of the car

There is the ongoing trend of dropping light pressured turbo charges into cars with smaller engines, for benefits of fuel savings and near immediate engine response.

The Hyundai Tucson, originally in a naturally aspirated 2.0 guise was not spared the treatment.

Exterior

Outwardly, there are no changes with the 2.0 we tested late last year. Hyundai’s “Fluidic Sculpture 2.0” design language is carried across into the turbocharged variant.

A large front grille flanked by a well-designed headlamp cluster, below them, a set of daytime running lights. Surrounding the base of the car, black trim which form around the wheel arches housing the 225/60R17 tyres, with some room in-between for a little wheel articulation, not that you’d that much. Hyundai did a good job in pressing out shoulders along the side of the car, forming just after the front wheel arch, and gently tapering off above where the rear tail lamps begin. On the front doors, a set of wing mirrors with signal repeaters.

The tapered-down roofline ends with a rear wing on the boot lid, which also houses the third tail lamp. Aft the “C” pillar, a small quarter glass completes the side window profile of the Korean SUV.

Rear styling of the Tucson features shaped red tail lamps, with a whited out area for the indicator and reverse lamps, on the lower half. Otherwise, the rear is kept clean. The rear bumper lower trim forms upward almost to hint of a diffuser, and hiding the car’s exhaust.
