Porsche Boxster 3.4 GTS PDK Review

Porsche has been privy to the Cayman and Boxster’s potential right from the beginning. Thus explains why the entry-level Porsches have never been allowed to go anywhere near its 911 bigger brother. That’s because with its mid-engine setup, the Boxster is inherently more balanced than the rear engine configuration of the 911. But lately Porsche seems to be relenting and is slowly stoking the baby brother to its full potential.

The Boxster GTS and the new Cayman GT4 are signs of change at the Stuttgart factory. Understandably the 911 will always be the favoured son but at the very least the Boxster and Cayman are now getting the same development effort to make them the best they can be.

So now the million dollar question is, how good is the new Boxster GTS? Rather is it worth $342,000?

For starters, Porsche made the GTS models that little bit more special with a reworked engine. Although it has the same 3.4-litre horizontally opposed six cylinder, they’ve given it a 15bhp boost to bring it up to 330bhp. Not enough to feel any stellar difference but enough to give it an eagerness missing in the Boxster S. Torque has been bumped up to 370Nm and is accessible between 4,500 to 5,800rpm. With only 1,375kg of mass to shuffle around, those numbers make the GTS an eager little sports car.
