Volkswagen Arteon

Replacing the CC, the Arteon was first hinted at the Geneva International Motor Show, back in 2015, as the Sport Coupe Concept GTE. The new GT car entered production with very little difference from the original concept.

Built on Volkswagen’s MQB vehicle architecture, the Arteon boasts plenty of interior space, thanks to a long 2,837mm wheelbase, also provides a comfortable ride for its occupants. Legroom for adults at the rear is very good, while all-round visibility is hard to beat in this genre.

The side profile features a shoulderline which runs through to the rear of the car, and forms up into widened rear haunches.

The clamshell-styled bonnet (the largest in the VW group) extends over the entire front end and up to the wheel arches. Uniquely finely-integrated LED light conductors perform the functions of daytime running lights and position lights, while the overall LED headlamp design forms the new “face” of Volkswagen design.

The Arteon is sold with a 2.0 turbocharged engine, which delivers an excellent 290PS, and 350Nm of torque, and puts the power to all four wheels thanks to VW’s 4MOTION all-wheel drive system, and a quick-shifting 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox.

KIA Stinger

Tigernose design has never looked better. The new KIA Stinger is the Korean manufacturer’s serious attempt to build a GT-styled driver’s car, and they have certainly nailed it. The new Stinger channels the spirit of historic grand tourers – powerful, elegant vehicles capable of moving their owners in style and speed. The car features head-turning looks, and provides ample room for five passengers.

Tested on the infamous Nürburgring Nordschleife in Germany, the Stinger’s handling has been developed under the watch of Albert Biermann, Head of Kia’s Performance Development and High Performance Vehicles.

On the inside, the Stinger offers the latest infotainment systems and driver technologies, featuring a hight-adjustable Head-up Display, reflected straight onto the windshield, while the 8” touchscreen infotainment system features Apple CarPlay connectivity with Bluetooth integration.

The GT model is powered by a turbocharged 3.3 litre V6 engine, which takes the Stinger to 100km/h in just 4.9 seconds.

The entry 2.0 turbo also benefits from rear-driven drivetrain, offering an entertaining drive, while delivering maximum torque of 353Nm at just 1,400rpm; providing very good drivability.

Audi A5 Sportback

Squint a little and you might just catch a hint of the Panamera on this one… That is at least from my lens. The Audi A5 Sportback combines all the fun of a coupe, and enough room to seat four easily. Clean-cut styling ensures that this Compact Executive Coupe looks right at home in town, or even on the track.

Audi builds among the best dashboards in the business, and the A5 is no exception. Materials quality is good, and the digitised instrument binnacle makes navigating our busy streets a simpler affair.

We got behind of the A5 recently, and loved how balanced the car is. In addition, the assurance of the Quattro drivetrain ensures that the 2.0 turbocharged unit’s 248bhp is well-planted onto the tarmac.

BMW 6 Series 640i xDrive Gran Turismo

There is more to this car than meets the eye. BMW’s new 6 Series GT’s stretched out styling does not make any secret the good amount of space within. And beneath that coupe silhouette, lies plenty of tech, from adaptive cruise control to remote parking. Rear passengers even get electric window visors.

Then there is the four-wheel steering, which not only makes manoeuvring the car easier, but also adds to stability.

Passenger comfort is excellent in the GT, with plenty of legroom, and headroom, even for passengers at the rear. The GT also offers the second-largest boot in BMW's current range!

A 350bhp inline-6 powers the 640i GT, taking it to 100km/h in just 5.3 seconds, and the car certainly delivers well as a GT car for the whole family as we discovered.
