The Review

So like every other young adult who wants to get their own car after getting their lisence, i begged my parents for 1 too. On my 21th birthday i received a car key, hoping for the best.. i instead got this. A second-hand 1 year old Getz. Sure it is no Honda Civic EG6, certainly not in looks or its engine but hey i have a car now!!! Then came the my first drive. I was going "Oh dear god! why is this so SLOW!!!". At 65bhp you cant really expect much out of this. I mean I dont think it will even be fast enough to hit anything at all. The clutch is really high for a manuel car and having taken my TP test in a Mit Lancer, this was really underpowered. My first thoughts were to tune it. but my parents werent going to pay for that.. in fact it wasnt worth doing anything to the car other than using it to get to my destination. Sure, it really sucks on the performance part. But it totally makes up in fuel consumption. My dad has to pump gas for his car every week. Well for me, i do it once every fortnight. Besides that, if people see a Getz on the road, they wont even bother to horn me for traveling so slowly. I really cant go that much faster. They will just avoid me. Compared to the other cars i've rode in, this one is truly a basic car. The interior provides just enough comfort and legroom for both driver and passenger. The stereo belts out decent music. But the suspension i must say really does well in providing a smooth journey. Engine noise is relatively low too. One other thing I can say is that though it is slow, it is reliable. It has not broken down once since i got it and i've since grew attached to it. Having to pump once in 2 weeks is a huge plus on the financial side. To wrap things up, Parents, if you ever want to get your spoilt begging kid a car, get this and ask him/her to deal with it. You can be absolutely sure your kid wont cause an accident. However it will be hard to catch your kid sneaking home late at night as this is one silent ninja.

Strengths

Static safety, dynamic safety, comfort, reasonable acceleration (with 1 lady passenger only during test-drive)

Weaknesses

Can further refine suspension to absorb road uneveness
Can look at reducing curb weight
Should omit window visors for non-smokers

The Review

Great split-hair competition among similar models, potential buyers should really test-drive all models to decide, if only a few dollars difference

Drive pattern: 65 percent expressway, 35 percent major/minor roads.
Duration of car driven: 3 months

Strengths

1. Rear seats fold down mechanism looks more "steady" and spacious than picanto's.
2. Good Sound insulation
3. Anti Rust Coat
4. Latest clock in Fuel Comsuption = 16km/l
5. Very stylish 2006-facelift front-end
6. Good legroom (front & rear)
7. Easily fit 5 adults including driver
8. Chasis material use doesn't feel cheap at all.

Ride is comfortable.

Weaknesses

1. Not very good acceleration, difficult to do overtaking unless at 4th or 5th gear in expressway.
2. Roof noise level better compared to Nissan Sunny.
3. Power window control is installed at the front console near cigar lighter socket. Quite a hassle actually.

The Review

In terms of reliability, no problem at all. One main thing is that the fuel consumption is good despite being small-engined. Though pick up is slow but it can be improved by using K&N filter. I would recommend this for people who use it to go to work everyday. The front-end is what attracted me the most. Although the 1.1 may not be that powerful, it is adequate for most Singaporeans as an urban runabout. Top speed travelled in Singapore expressway is 115km/h and there isn't any signs of shaking, jerking or instability of any sorts. Highest speed able to travel according to technical spec is 148km/hr (not proven yet by me).

Thanks for the response. Well, have been driving this car for the past 3 years now. I must say i have driven this car all the way to Genting without problem (Having 4 adults with 2 children). My consistent speed at the NS expressway was often 110km/hr to 120km/hr and at times, ramp up to 140km/hr. As for the pickup, well, it's a 1.1cc engine. We can't really compare that with a super car or car with a higher cc. I haven't drive a Suzuki 800 before, so can't really compare that as well. asdzds

Given its kerb weight I could expect it to accelerate like Suzuki 800 with 2 passengers on board (a little agonisingly slow). That is the car designed for presentable acceleration with one passenger only up to around 90km/h hopefully. Not likely I buy another with Suzuki 800 acceleration asdzds
