One of the highlights of the motorshow would be none other than the Mazda MX5 RF. As many of us know, the MX 5 is really one of the best-selling sports cars in the world.
With near-perfect balance, traditional RWD, just so similar to the old British convertible sports cars of the yester years, they instantly became a hit, with legendary reliability, and excellent handling.
The RF (Retractable Fastback) model, adds to the MX5, a solid retractable roof. The entire side profile of the RF casts a very different silhouette compared to its soft top sibling.
Electrical motors make easy work of retracting the roof into the boot cavity, while also lifting part of the rear bodywork to accommodate the solid roof. Dropping the roof back on, is just as easy, without any need of manual fastening. Rear bodywork styling bears some resemblance to the Jaguar XJS, with buttresses which frame the rear windscreen, adding some depth to the rear treatment.
Mazda here, is rather “hush-hush” about this at the moment, but we can be rather certain that the car available would be the 2.0 SKYACTIV-G, with an automatic transmission.
One thing for sure, the solid roof, and strikingly good looks would make this car superbly attractive to those who absolutely love the MX 5 for its legendary handling, but would prefer a coupe-ish car rather than a soft top.
