Chevrolet introduces the Optra Magnum CNG in Singapore
Posted by azfar 29 Mar 2008
GM ODC introduces the Chevrolet Optra Magnum CNG - the first original factory fitted CNG passenger car in its segment in Singapore.
The new Chevrolet Optra Magnum CNG (Compressed Natural Gas) was just unveiled, becoming the first ever CNG vehicle to be available direct from the manufacturer. The Chevrolet Optra Magnum CNG offers an environmentally friendly, safe and economical ownership experience for Singaporean drivers. The Optra Magnum CNG will be available in two body variants - sedan and estate, both with an engine capacity of 1.6-litres and mated to 4-speed automatic transmission.

The Optra Magnum CNG is the first original factory fitted car in its segment in Singapore with CNG fuel system installed directly at the manufacturer, and comes with a valid three-year / 100,000km standard warranty and 24-hour after-sales support. This means that Chevrolet CNG owners will enjoy greater peace of mind and a different ownership experience compared to locally-fitted CNG vehicle owners, where the retrofitting of CNG can void a car's warranty.

Besides being environmental-friendly, CNG has a clean combustion which means the engine stays clean and produces less noise. CNG vehicles fulfill all present emission standards worldwide, including the Euro 4 standard, and does not require catalytic converters. Currently, CNG car owners have the option to refuel at any one of the three refueling stations around the island - Jurong Island, Jalan Buroh and Mandai Link. Two more refueling stations are slated to open at Bukit Merah and Serangoon North Avenue 5.

Bookings for the Chevrolet Optra Magnum CNG are now available from Chevrolet dealers. The Chevrolet Optra Magnum sedan is priced at $62,688, while the Chevrolet Optra Magnum estate is priced at $65,488. Both prices include COE.

 Hi guys,

After some clarification with GM, i've edited the above. Hope this clears the air!

At the same time, thanks for pointing it out!

I have no problems with the statement in paragraph 3 but I wonder if the first sentence in the previous paragraph could be misleading. The article claimed that the car is "the first ever CNG vehicle to be available direct from the manufacturer". It would have been clearer if the elaboration ("in its segment") was included here. Anyway, I've also seen some Chevy ads stating the same thing, but if I was correct then Mercedes deserves the honour.

paragraph 3 states "first car in its segment" - so GM wants to say that it's the first car in the 1.6-litre category to come factory-fitted with CNG. hope this clears the air."

The first sentence indeed misleading, do they mean by the first car manufacturer to have their vehicles being equipped with CNG at their own factory or the first CNG vehicle ever being produced by Chevrolet?

Some Mercedes E200 NGTs were indeed purchased by taxi companies, but they were also available as private cars via the official dealer.

i guess you'll want to drive to Malaysia, cos' CNG costs 30-something cents there vs $1plus over here

reckon there'll be more such vehicles coming into our market. but it's a good effort on Chevrolet's part to start the ball rolling.

I dont think many people in Singapore would consider to buy it as they would lose a huge amount of boot space, but if they just want to save the money for fuel and dont mind the boot space they could go for it

considering you lost quite a huge chunk of your boot space, yah i second your opinion...

Will it be inconvenient if drive to Malaysia??
