Over the last two years, the awards have proved to be the benchmarks for auto excellence in India and are widely recognized as the most trusted word on automobiles for consumers, manufacturers and auto experts alike. Hyundai i10 was the unanimous choice of experts as well as customers alike.

The most coveted of the Auto Awards, the ICOTY award has been instituted by all the prominent automotive magazines in the country like Autocar India, Auto India, Business Standard Motoring, Car India, Overdrive and Top Gear, and the jury comprises of the senior most motoring journalists in India. The purpose of the award is to recognise and choose the car which best symbolises quality, driveability and performance.

Expressing joy on receiving the award, H S Lheem, Managing Director, HMIL, said, "At a time when the market is crowded with a slew of new products, Hyundai i10 has emerged as a clear winner. i10´s victory denotes the acceptance and popularity of Hyundai Motor India as a brand that has won over its customers by its excellence in technology, performance, eye for detailing. It´s an honour for us to receive these awards as Hyundai i10 was launched recently and we have received overwhelming response from our customers, dealers and the media across India and abroad"

Factors such as fuel efficiency, ride, handling, safety, comfort, driver satisfaction and price were taken into consideration before the cars were ranked on a 25-point scale, where a maximum of 10 points was given to a car. The eligibility process also required that all competing cars were new models launched in the calendar year 2007. Cars that were adaptations of existing models with mere cosmetic changes or those with just engine and transmission swaps, for instance, were not eligible. The car with the maximum points simply emerges as the winner. And in this case, it was Hyundai i10. Further, the award provides an impetus to carmakers to introduce contemporary and safe models in India.

Hyundai´s i10 has already captured the entire gamut of the most prestigious of Indian automobile awards with its distinction and performance. It has received a total of 4 `Car of the Year´ awards from Business Standard Motoring, CNBC TV18 Autocar, NDTV Profit Car and Bike India and Overdrive magazine. The car also made a clean sweep of the `Viewers´ Choice´ award bagging the Aaj Tak Viewers´ Choice awards as well as the `Small car of the Year´ by NDTV Profit Car & Bike India.
