Land Rover Discovery Sport 2.0 HSE Review

With its new wrap-around LED lights back and front, high level grille and chunky C-pillar, the new 2015 Land Rover Discovery Sport HSE is a good looking car.

Starting up using the neat keyless button is whisper-quiet, but swinging round the car park the whole plot gets unnervingly wobbly. This is a big vehicle; it weighs some 1.8 tonnes with everything filled up. Tight slow turns feel floppy and almost too sensitive. I think glumly back to old Land Rover Series 1s, which handled like a bucket full of jelly. But then surprise surprise, once out on the road, everything comes delightfully together. It's wide, yes, but the lane detector warns if you overlap into the next one. The excellent brakes and auto-emergency stop help stop it in record time - and a straight line. Even taking a PIE on-ramp at about 70kph then suddenly lifting off doesn't put me in the outside barrier - the auto-understeer detect steps in, gently applies the inside brakes and puts me back on line. All without a hint of excess body roll. As an engineering concept, the Discovery Sport is a compromise between practicality and capability. As a driver's car, it is a brilliantly integrated package thanks to some very sophisticated control software.

Sold my car withing a few days. Fast process. However, be ready for dealers to slash price saying need to change tyre, need to repaint, etc during viewing.

I did receive the best quote out of 5 enquiries I sent. It was the inspection and quick deposit that sealed the deal. All in, it was a pleasant experience compared to the other merchants available. Keep up the good work!
