Introduction

I recently claimed that a big 4x4 is a bit useless when I reviewed the BMW X5. Happily however, I got my hands on the latest Hyundai Santa Fe and was rather excited to see if I might have spoken too soon.

Having always been a sedan/ coupe kind of guy, I never really saw the appeal of a big SUV especially since the handling inevitably suffers. Sure, you get loads of space and the awesome road presence that makes the car feel every bit worth the well-over-hundred-grand bomb you just loaded yourself with, but I tend to find myself in doubt about the heft of the thing.

In short, having driven two large SUVs back to back, I won’t say that I’m a convert; rather I’ve decided that size, can really matter in quite a big way.
