Volkswagen Golf GTI 2.0 TSI Review
Royal GTi Highness

18 Dec 2016

Introduction and Exterior

The Mk7 Golf has been in the market for a bit. But there is a reason why we are writing this late, and a very important one. Volkswagen will be launching what is termed unofficially as the Mk7.5 in time to come, and there will be some changes. Yes, improvements are the norm, but changes that will shape what is to come in the future.

A red stripe across the front grille that eats into the head lamps, defining the car’s iconic image.  The front fog lamps are covered by a set of fins. Subtle pinching of the shoulders gives the Golf a sense of lightness; a small red ‘GTi’ badge gives a hint of its identity on the front fender. The 225/40R18 on ‘Austin’ alloys fill the wheel arches, creating the iconic look of the current car. Rear wings, with tiny piano black buttresses flank the rear windscreen, supposedly to create better aerodynamic efficiency, taper into the sides of the windshield. At the base of the rear bumper, there are twin tail pipes which add to the balanced design of the Golf.

Then again, the car is a familiar sight on our roads. The vanilla Golf, has become an item of desire by the younger middle class, and many of us already know what it looks like. The GTi, simply sits on the pinnacle of all this.
