Ever since Jaguar got itself a fresh injection of funds, things have been shaking up. Shaken up awake and frothing at the mouth is the Jaguar F-Pace S. A 3.0 V6 with a supercharger bolted on sits under the hood. I knew something was stirring, but I wasn’t sure what it was just yet.
Exterior
Jaguar might have gotten the formula right in terms of visuals. While it says on the box, “it looks assertive without being too aggressive” the ‘S’ model, does come across a tad more assertive than the Prestige and R-Sport models it sits on top of.
You are given a visual treat of a fat wire mesh grille, sited in the upper middle, is a red “Growler” emblem, and just to remind people to get out of the way, an “S” badge on the bottom-right. A gloss black surround defines the edges of the grille, and meets the bodywork. Additional mesh and gloss black can be found under the headlamps, where you’d expect the fogs to be, almost to say, the fogs have no place there. They are however sited below the additional intakes, as subtle slits. The headlamp design carries on it Jaguar’s current design language. The ‘L’ shaped daytime LED runs along the base of the lens, and flows upward toward the sides, defining the base where angry-looking headlamps “eyes” peer out.
A large bonnet with a longitudinal power bulge in the middle, gives a sense of strength, power and all of that kind of angry stuff. As with the front grille surround, the front fender inserts do get the same gloss black treatment on the ‘S’ model.
The side profile shows more sheet metal, with high shoulders, which upslope rearward. The thin tail lamp design is F-Type influenced, and draws a convincing link to the sports car.
