Kia Niro Hybrid 1.6 EX Review
Maybe The New Black for Hybrids

20 Mar 2017

Introduction and Exterior

Glossy black trim trickles down from the wing, and terminates behind an attractive tail lamp assembly, with the brake LEDs surrounding the lighting clusters.

Toyota has one, Hyundai too built one, Kia Motors then said… We have one as well.

Kia said “try it!!” And we said “OK!”

The new Kia Niro represents Kia’s first foray into the fuel sipping hybrid car market. Would Kia know how to enter a market which has already gotten some traction over the last few years? We try the new Niro hybrid to find out.

Unlike the Toyota Prius C, or the Hyundai Ioniq, Kia has opted for a crossover type styling. We must say, their approach is rather refreshing. If you are worried about added ride height, which could make it difficult to enter or exit the car, fret not, as the Niro is about the same height as most other hatches on the road. Style-wise, it does cut a convincing SUV-like silhouette.

Frontal styling features Kia’s familiar “Tiger Nose” styling. Headlamps sit halfway up from the grille. To emphasise its crossover intensions, the Niro features lots of black trim which surrounds the base of the car, and around the wheel arches. The 16” alloy rims somehow may look a little small sitting in those holes, but they offer more comfort from a practical standpoint, versus bigger rim sizes. They do look good with that black accenting going on with them.

A glossy black wing reduces the optical size of the rear windshield, giving the Niro a more sporty appearance at the rear. Glossy black trim trickles down from the wing, and terminates behind an attractive tail lamp assembly, with the brake LEDs surrounding the lighting clusters.

Good response and support from Angie at One Shift when I wanted to sell off my old Camry which was due to be scrapped in early February. Would recommend this platform for those wanting to buy or sell their cars.
