Now For Sale: Swedish Tanks That Are Driver-Friendly

I’m definitely not referring to some ludicrous cup-holders that were put in so that “you and your family can have a relaxing ride”.

We see plenty rubbish cars on the road, almost every day perhaps. They were not made out of passion and zeal, and they had no goal in their life, e.g., homologation, and then those which are absolutely worthless, yet sell because they are cheap and “can get you from point A to B” - if they don’t break down first that is.

A tankful worth of safety

One of the things which matter most when driving on the road is safety. And of course, ask just about anyone which car they think is the safest and the name “Volvo” will almost certainly be mentioned. But it’s not just stronger cars they’re harping on these days.

The S80 3.2 comes with a list of laudable features such as Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC), Personal Car Communicator (PCC), Intelligent Driver Information System (IDIS) and Collision Warning with Brake Support.

Outside

On the outside, the S80 gives the impression that it’s a bodyguard’s car (which it is). While it is something you could drive it to business meetings without giving your associates the impression that you’ve made a bad investment, it’s also the type of car you could drive to the hawker centre without people thinking you’re rich and a showoff.

From the side, it does rather resemble a BMW 5-Series. But that’s not a bad thing is it? In fact, its rounder proportions might hit off well with some of the Chris Bangle-haters. One rather minor quip, however, is the presence of a little black box, which encases its cruise control components, hidden behind the front grills.

It shows, albeit not too prominently, when you step out in front of the car. More importantly, as a whole, it has good, clean lines and with nothing loud or excessive.
