With a length of 4,486mm, the Tiguan could easily dwarf most SUVs within its market segment, and the one above it
Volkswagen's large, very large compact SUV, the Tiguan, has to fulfil the uphill task of satisfying a market which has been leaning even more toward the “Crossover” buzzword.
In-fact, just about any car which does not look like a sedan could almost qualify as a Crossover these days. Slap on some plastic bits, use keywords like “Cross” or just simply place an “X” somewhere, jack the car up and inch, and you would likely attract a healthy number of consumers to your brand.
The Tiguan on the other hand had stuck to its traditional formula of making an SUV, and more importantly, it does look the part.
Love That Road Presence
From some angles, you can be forgiven in mistaking that this is a BMW X3, it does look a little like one.
Crisp, angular folds in the side sheet metal add to the impression of a high shoulder line, and frontal styling carries Volkswagen’s current design language, of many things angular, and horizontal. The new looks is certainly a large departure from the previous car, which looked like it would have been dwarfed by the period Honda CRV, size and styling-wise.
With a length of 4,486mm, the Tiguan could easily dwarf most SUVs within its market segment, and the one above it.
But with the new looks, and the new dimensions, it might set buyers thinking twice about their car choice, since Volkswagen had after all targeted the premium buyer, but with their brand which sits above things mainstream, and just a shade below premium. Confused? Actually, this really is a good thing. Read on to find out why.
