MINI Cooper S Countryman Review
Activity Rocket For The Pocket

16 Oct 2017

For the Cooper S model, the car gets a power hump on the bonnet

Why yes… MINI had to do a go-quicker model of the Countryman. This one, is bigger, faster, and in all senses better than the car it replaces. But how does it add up?

We took this one to Kuantan to give it a good shake-up, and it delivered quite strongly.

There is a slight toning down of the frontal styling, as compared to the previous car. A cuter, angry pufferfish face replaces the shark-like styling of the old car.

Based on the BMW X1, but completely different from its Bavarian cousin, the Countryman carries with it distinctive MINI styling, with its larger-than life headlamps with chrome bezels, and rear-end treatment, which apes the styling of the original MINIs. For the Cooper S model, the car gets a power hump on the bonnet, “S” badging on the grille and front fenders, chromed fog lamp surrounds, and piano black bumpers.

Gone too is that extra-large centralised MINI logo in the rear. At the base of the rear bumper, a plastic faux scruff panel and tail pipe finishers at each end, featuring that cool “beer can” styling.

18” Alloy rims carry with them 225/50 Bridgestone Turanza tyres, which are very good for dry and wet road conditions.
