Mazda’s new CX-9 now benefits from a turbocharged engine. It has been a long while since the Japanese manufacturer fielded a force-fed engine into their range.

With the people-carrying capabilities of this new car, it was timely, that they released their 2.5 litre turbo four into the market. Would we see the engine trickle down the product line, to say… the equally well-designed CX-5? Only time will tell.

Styling

The stretched-out proportions, actually provides the new CX-9 an attractive silhouette. Like its smaller CX-5 sibling, the CX-9 also gets that larger-than-life front grille, which harks back to the legendary RX-3’s grille design…. And then taken up many notches.

Going with the KODO design language, Mazda designers have created a well-executed and sculpted side profile which keeps to the Golden Ratio – something like the holy grail of car design, and well, just most everything else in the world.

The 20”rims fill up those wheel arches perfectly, surrounded with decorative plastic guards, delivering a very meaningful stance.
