Jaguar F-Pace 2.0 R-Sport Review
Urban Pacer

4 Apr 2018

the 2.0 turbocharged four-banger delivers maximum torque of 365Nm from just 1,200rpm

The much hyped about Ingenium 2.0 engine finds its way into Jaguar’s first SUV. The F-Pace which made its appearance back in 2016 was deemed to be a car more heavily sought after than Jaguar’s traditional stable of sedans and sports cars. Unfortunately the 3.0 might have been too large a pill for the Singapore market to swallow.

The new 2.0 on the other hand seems to be the sensible package the brand needs, or more accurately, the market needs.

While featuring mildly styled bits of kit, compared to the high-performance 3.0 S model we tested a while ago, the 2.0 still delivers on strikingly head-turning looks.

While the 3.0 benefits from immediate delivery of torque, thanks to its supercharger, the 2.0 turbocharged four-banger delivers maximum torque of 365Nm from just 1,200rpm. Like the rest of the range, the 2.0 also gets the proven ZF 8-speed gearbox, but only with drive to the rear wheels (very sensible for urban use).

Nought to one-hundred is an impressively brisk 6.8 seconds, though gear changes are not the smoothest. Unlike the Mercedes-Benz GLC 200 which is also RWD only, and feels rather directionally vague in handling and a little too soft, the Jag on the other hand feels nimble and alive. Unlike the 3.0, with the adaptive suspension, which does the trick of keeping the car planted, the 2.0 makes do with a conventional setup, and you will find moments where the 2.0 will feel unsettled, but nothing that a little correcting with the steering can help.

In Normal drive mode, the 8-speeder gearbox tends to change up early for purposes of fuel efficiency; the down side though, is a drone entering the cabin produced by resonance from the exhaust.

Good response and support from Angie at One Shift when I wanted to sell off my old Camry which was due to be scrapped in early February. Would recommend this platform for those wanting to buy or sell their cars.
