BMW X3 xDrive30i M Sport Review

the X3 still stays true to the elements of BMW’s traditional design language

Oneshift had the privilege of putting the new X3 through its paces in Australia last year. Our choice would have been the diesel xDrive 30d model, with an inline six, delivering an astronomical 620Nm, and a 5.8 second 0-100km/h; delivering plenty of shove whenever your right foot calls for it.

Back in Singapore, due to emissions standards not working to the favour of buyers, and where prices are also astronomical, there are lesser model choices.

Well back to the car, the new X3 is larger and also benefits from a slightly longer wheelbase over its predecessor. Our test car was the xDrive30i M Sport, which means a turbocharged 2.0 with larger wheel options and a firm sports suspension under the skin.

You would immediately notice the larger front grille, hexagonal daytime running lights, which complement the mildly blistered side profile, while wheel arches also keep to the angular theme; all of this exterior styling goodness, penned by young Munich-based Australian, Calvin Luk (responsible for the X1 and facelifted 1 Series), whom we (“Luk-ily”) had the opportunity to meet last year.

That said, the X3 still stays true to the elements of BMW’s traditional design language, with dependable shoulders and a large Hofmeister Kink at the rear. However we still cannot get past the attractive-but-false outlets sited on the front fenders, behind the front wheels.
