Renault Scenic 1.5T dCi Privilege Review
The Curious Case Of The Multi-Pocketed Mango

22 May 2018

The Renault Scenic is just like it’s larger Grand Scenic MPV sibling, but minus its last row of seats.

So this is an MPV without the last row of seats… Or is this a large hatchback… Or is this an SUV. Well Renault certainly thinks so, adding further to the confusion, since it does bear the same “Scenic” moniker.

The shortened overall length isn’t immediately noticeable, as the car successfully carries over just about all the design cues of its larger sibling, apart from the very different rear tail lamps and boot lid.

As a design exercise, the Scenic certainly is pleasing to the eye. The honey yellow paint job of our test car certainly makes the car “pop”, especially under strong sunlight.

Since the overall length is 4,635mm, 228mm shorter than its “Grand” sibling, yet almost at the same height, the car does look rather cute. There is plenty of glass surrounding the cabin, and the like its larger sibling, the “A” pillar stretches far forward and sits over the hub of the front wheel, while the front of the car gets quite a bit of an overhang as compared to the rear. At the rear, there is a fancy up-swung “C” pillar, which when viewed from the side, almost mimics the rear wing of a sports car.

The large 20” rims are standard fixtures on the car, something rather unusual for a car in this class. While they look fabulous (apart from revealing tiny brakes), we would also say that tyre cost will be somewhat slightly higher in this respect.

Overall, the Scenic presents itself as a cheeky-yet chic family car for five.

Good response and support from Angie at One Shift when I wanted to sell off my old Camry which was due to be scrapped in early February. Would recommend this platform for those wanting to buy or sell their cars.
