Infiniti’s “Spinal Support” seats are a plus, especially for those with weaker backs
The Q50 is Infiniti’s most successful car in Singapore to date, with the sedan accounting for one third of Infiniti’s global sales. Four years later, the Q50 receives a much-needed makeover, and our test variant, the ‘Sensory’ model is loaded with new technologies to keep pace with the competition.
Styling-wise, it would take a keen eye to spot the differences between both the facelift and pre-facelift units. The ‘new’ car receives a restyled fog lamp cluster, featuring more angular sculpting. The Q50 also gets a subtly re-designed double-arch grille, with a deeper-detailed wave mesh pattern.
On the side, the Q50’s wave-like character line forms muscular shoulders, while at the rear, the car does away with its circular tail lamps, and in their place, neater C-shaped lenses, which we feel matches the car better.
Inside
Infiniti’s “Spinal Support” seats are a plus, especially for those with weaker backs, as they have been designed to reduce pressure on lower and upper back muscles, and would make the car quite ideal for long drives. In addition, the Q50’s electric adjustable steering, together with the seats comes with two memory settings for convenience.
The car’s 16-speaker BOSE Performance Series surround sound system is able to reproduce rich sounds within the cabin, and comes as standard.
The quality of fit and finish on the dash is very good, and there is a sense that you will not get any squeaks with age. Buttons too have a nice tactile feel to them.
There are only a few gripes which we had. One would be the cheap looking dial surrounds in the instrument binnacle, and the other being a mishmash of fonts used in the car’s infotainment system. That said, the dual touch capacitive stacked screens are useful, though the lower screen, is prone to fingerprints. The GPS unit could also be more intuitive.
Technological improvements to the car are focused on safety, with Infiniti’s ProACTIVE safety pack, which includes technologies such as the Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Warning, Forward Collision Warning and Back-up Collision Intervention, and a useful 360 degree camera.
The boot reveals a very good 510 litres, which is enough for perhaps two to three sets of golf bags.
Prompt and Fast. Service officer Muhd Yazid was very helpful in guiding the sales, and when urgent assistance is required! Kudos to officer for being able to address all queries.
