The new Eclipse Cross may not be the coupe we are hoping for, but it really is the crossover that Mitsubishi needs
Mitsubishi is going through some very important transformations, and they are important ones. The sign of the times means that many brands have sped up their evolution. Speaking about evolution, sadly with the demise of their rally-inspired Lancer Evolution compact sedan due to the brand pulling out of the World Rally Championship (WRC) a while ago (hopefully we will see some kind of development in this field soon with its new parent), there has also been some movement in model nomenclature.
The Eclipse moniker has always been associated with the brand’s hot front wheel drive compact coupe, built for the American market… almost like what the lovely 90s FTO was for the rest of the world.
The new Eclipse Cross may not be the coupe we are hoping for, but it really is the crossover that Mitsubishi needs. With growing popularity for cars which are good with utility room, comfort and a touch of sportiness, the Eclipse Cross is built to check those boxes. But how well does the Japanese manufacturer, known for some of the most aggressive cars from the Land of the Rising Sun check these boxes?
Built on a wheelbase of 2,670mm, their compact Crossover features angular styling all-around, and like their newer cars, features Mitsubishi’s new “Dynamic Shield” in the front. At the rear, the car sports a distinctive forward-sloping ‘C’ pillar which complements the positive rake of the pressed sheet metal and window line, and the downward-sloping roof.
At the rear, the split windshield might not be everyone's cup of tea. With pushed-out tail lamps, the boot opening is as practical as it is squarish.
Prompt and Fast. Service officer Muhd Yazid was very helpful in guiding the sales, and when urgent assistance is required! Kudos to officer for being able to address all queries.
