The list of luxury SUV is indeed a long one in our market – especially a full-sized, luxury one.
Before you sign on the dotted line for that luxury SUV you’ve been eyeing for months, take a step back quickly and keep that pen away.
Then now ask yourself the following questions: Firstly, is it really what you want? Secondly, is it as practical as it claims to be? Thirdly, is it fast enough to lug its weight? Fourth, can you actually take it off-roading? Lastly, can it carry the entire family without anyone complaining about the lack of space?
If you have at least a tinge of doubt to the answer for any of the questions above, then what you should do next is run out of the showroom as quickly as you could; as they say, if in doubt do not commit.
The list of luxury SUV is indeed a long one in our market – especially a full-sized, luxury one. Let’s see, BMW has the X5, Audi has Q7, Porsche with the Cayenne, Lexus and the RX, Infiniti has the FX, Volvo with the XC 90, then there’s also Mercedes-Benz M-Class and let’s not forget the Jeep Grand Cherokee. Plus, there’s Volkswagen with the Touareg too.
But are you forgetting something else? Hint: It’s British, and it’s the daddy of all SUVs.
Meet the Land Rover Discovery 4, now with an 8-speed transmission.
Now in its fourth iteration, the Discovery’s (or more affectionately known as ‘Disco’) exterior hasn’t changed much – prominently the “split-level” roof, pronounced wheel arches and box-like shape still remains. Its body language still points directly to its natural habitat being dirt tracks and muddy trails.
Despite all that, this version of the Discovery does show how premium it looks like compared to its predecessors. Interestingly, that large grill, together with those equally big headlamps, work together for one thing only: to freak out road-hoggers.
Compared to all its competitors, the Disco is bigger, taller and the least aerodynamic but heck, it won’t look out of place in our concrete jungle still. However at 4,829 mm long and 2,022 mm wide, your driving skills will be put to test, to negotiate it around tight carparks. Thankfully with parking sensors around the car plus a reversing camera makes manoeuvres less cumbersome.
19-inch rims, paired with 255/55 R-19 Goodyear Wrangler rubbers did a good job of filling those large wheel arches. Depending on your taste, 20-inch alloys can be opted as well.
SwiftQuote helped me get the highest possible price for my car, when many dealers around were low-balling me. Very impressed with their response time and how fast I managed to sell my car. The dealer that bought my car was also very genuine and it was a fuss free process, 10/10 would recommend.
