The center of attention here obviously goes to the Aventador-inspired exhaust pipe...
Hot-hatchbacks. Always the sort of car you wish you could buy and drive for a lifetime. The problem is, they’re always deemed ‘immature’, impractical and inappropriate. Worst still, they’re not cheap to insure. So it’s no surprise then that locally, every hot-hatchback models change hands pretty often.
But what if you can still get power, practicality, fun and coolness all in one package?
Ford, then, is your saviour. Meet the Focus ST, currently the daddy of front-wheel drive hot-hatchback money can buy.
Let’s start firstly by noticing how it doesn’t have a staid exterior – the Focus ST is now more exciting, invigorating but not over the top. Ok, so this shade of yellow might not win fans or will even get you arrested for disturbing the peace (egad, “Tangerine Scream”?), but take a close look at that kit – the front bumper, with those Aston Martin-like gaping honeycomb grill seem to look like a teenager gritting his teeth and grinning at the same time.
Don’t get me wrong, it looks brilliant. Psychotic even. Imagine seeing this in your rear-view mirror – you’ll definitely give way without any second thought…
Viewed from the side, it might look like Volvo’s V60. But once you check out those lines and creases, pronounced wheel arches and just that little bit of side skirt, you start to realise how no other hot-hatch available in the market looks like it. Nothing.
18-inch alloys, wrapped in 235/40 R-18 Goodyear Eagle F1 Asymmetric 2 rubbers come standard – the same pattern since the mark one Focus ST.
At the rear, the mark three Focus ST gets a highly detailed bumper also housing a pair of vents. Sporty? Yeap, sure is. The center of attention here obviously goes to the Aventador-inspired exhaust pipe; might come across as gimmicky, though. A nice touch is that properly sized roof mounted spoiler – not too small, and not too big.
