Renault Grand Scenic 2.0

Every now and then, some of the cars we test surprise us by doing a little better in certain aspects. And on the other hand, some of the cars that we had expected to perform splendidly turn out like, well, I don’t think I can use the word...

Very rarely though, do we get a car that blesses us with a completely more enjoyable experience than we imagined it would be; a car that excels in areas you did not think possible.

And when I get such a car, I tend to speak excitedly about it with my friends, and that means getting a puzzled stare as if I told them I had won a salsa competition.

Just like yesterday - when I was going on about how impressed I was by the Grand Scenic. And that didn’t seem to work too well for me. One thought I had lost the will to live and another thought I had gone a little wonky.

But that’s fine, because I would have thought the same too if someone went on about how well his van drove. I got into the car that morning, thinking that it wouldn’t leave of an impression, but boy, was I wrong.

The first thing I noticed was the unique design of its console layout – very tidy and well-spread dials, digital information display across the dash, simple buttons for the air-conditioning (which was rather weak) on the centre console, and then a barrage of buttons and switches behind the steering wheel.

Even then, it is all very neat and user-friendly – you need not be a fighter pilot to work out which buttons serve what purpose.
