Volkswagen Passat 2.0 Turbo FSI Review

For nearly 10 years, the Volkswagen Passat has carved a nice little niche for itself with its myriad of owners. For most of us, it bridges the space between the unimaginative, good-as-cloned run off the mill family cars, and the luxurious marques that few can afford, and boast.

When we drove the standard Passat, we were relatively impressed by the level of comfort offered. A refined cruiser, it didn’t leave much to the imagination with its up front nature, but it did offer us something a little different from the lot.

In fact, the VW Passat has grown enough to compete with the likes of the more upmarket Germans, rather than just being a car that warrants consideration from those whose pockets aren’t so deep.

Now in it’s sixth-generation, this “Lau Passat” is far from dated. It is the first all-new Volkswagen product masterminded by Bernd Pischetsrieder.

The sheetmetal has been stretched by nearly 8cm in width and more than 5cm in length. The cabin, however, is nearly 13cm longer, thanks in part to a switch to transverse-mounted engines.

The very fact that the engine is now mounted sideways should tell you how different things have been with Volkswagen and Audi to late, I particular, the A4 and A6 platform.

Now that the 2.8-liter V6 is already dead (and so is the W8) and they no longer fit, the 2 litre Golf GTi engine finds itself home in the Passat Turbo.

We drove the 197hp, 2.0-liter FSI four-cylinder turbo as a prelude to the 3.2 litre Passat Variant that we will be grabbing very soon. The 2 litre turbo is offered with the automatic six-speeder.

SwiftQuote helped me get the highest possible price for my car, when many dealers around were low-balling me. Very impressed with their response time and how fast I managed to sell my car. The dealer that bought my car was also very genuine and it was a fuss free process, 10/10 would recommend.
