Hola! This new model Jetta effectively displaces the rather podgy looking and under presented (by today’s standards at least) Mk IV, Golf-based Bora that sold from the period of 1999-2005.
Again, having had the rightful choice of being based on the platform of the Golf Mk V, VW's this one gains a significant amount of go, looks, handling capabilities and so on.
Just how much, though?
What is out
With the old Bora, Volkswagen deliberately pitched it against the likes of the Volvo S40, the Mercedes C class and the likes. Bad mistake. It was asking nearly a premium amount for something that didn’t really match its rivals.
This time round, by just looking at, and stepping into this car, you can tell that VW has made the effort by taking a different approach, and rightfully so.
We do not get a mind boggling array of ridiculous model trims, options and so on in that fashion. Instead, the Jetta aims for those interested in buying a mainstream vehicle that gives them a nice, premium feel to it, in terms of both build quality and power.
What you do get, is stability and traction control, brake assist, reverse sensors, brushed aluminum trimmings and the traditional three-spoke steering wheel wrapped in leather that we wished could have been made thicker, more in line with this car’s sporting nature.
You also get the multi-function buttons that control the stereo, trip computer and communication, six airbags, cruise control, tyre-pressure indicators and no less than 10 Dynaudio speakers that come with a front loadable 6-CD changer.
On the outside, expect no less than bi-xenon HID lamps, fog lamps, the 17-inch alloys wearing 225/45 R17 Pirelli P-Zeros, a sunroof, fog lights and a nice, sports suspension that sits the car 15mm lower.
Being the 2 litre turbo from the Golf, expect to have a DSG option only, and really, this is the way to go.
..and in?
In case you have not heard us swoon over the huge boot, yes it is there – all 527 litres of it, enough to fit three full grown men, or four golf bags if that is what you are into. The lines of the rear blend in nicely with the B-pillar, and a front that looks a little like the Golf R32.
I would like to extend my gratitude to Renai from SwiftQuote to make the transaction a smooth and pleasant experience. I would highly recommend the team from SwiftQuote!!
