And they are right...The new Evolution sports a new chassis, new engine, new exterior and interior design, a new Super All Wheel Control (S-AWC) vehicle dynamics control system, revamped front and rear suspension and even a new manual transmission that shifts automatically (Twin Clutch Sport Shift Transmission).
With that, Mitsubishi hopes that this tenth incarnation of the venerable Evolution series will usher in a new era of 4WD driving experience for the driver.
But how exactly does it rate?
When Mitsubishi showcased their Concept-X in 2005, followed by the Prototype-X in 2007, rave reviews over the new design language convinced Mitsubishi that they've gotten the styling right. However, when the new Evolution X was finally revealed, we felt that the production car design was a little bit of a disappointment - all due to the car sporting longer front overhangs which gave the car a slightly nose-heavy look.
That aside, the new Lancer Evolution X IS ready to kill with its looks alone.
The inverted-slant nose and trapezoidal grille is the highlight of the design of the new Evolution. Combined with a pair of downwards slanting headlights, the car gives an uncanny resemblance to that of a menacing and hungry-looking shark, waiting to devour any lesser beings on the road.
Moving along the sides of the car, the Evolution X carries bulging fenders on all four corners to make the car feel more Arnold Schwarzenegger than Forrest Gump. The signature “racer-boy” wing of the old has been replaced by a subtler, more angular wing that still cuts across your rear vision. This new wing sits on the boot identical to that of the Lancer EX, with the exception of a rear diffuser that wraps around the bottom of the car to increase aerodynamic efficiency.
