Small in size, big in value...

They're small, sprightly and easy to manoeuvre. It seems most motorists have thought so of compact hatches, and now we're giving you some of the most practical suggestions - in the form of Chevrolet's Aveo5, Mazda's 2 and the perennial favourite, Suzuki's Swift.

Introduction

A compact hatch seems to be the most logical buy. Since the car will be used mostly for urban commute and the prices of petrol are erratic, getting something small and economical should be practical enough in the long run…

And so here you have it – three compact hatches. The Suzuki Swift is something we’re already familiar with, but was recently given a new lease of life in the form of minor facelifts and a spruced up interior. And then there’s the Mazda2 – an internationally acclaimed compact hatch that instantly became an overnight hit and the darling of most auto publications.

But there’s also another compact hatch, but unlike the two abovementioned, this one doesn’t hail from Japan – it comes in the form of the Korean Chevrolet Aveo5. Recently released to our market after some heavy revisions and enhancements, the Aveo5 is the cheapest among the lot. We took the Aveo5 for a test spin in our Road Test segment not too long ago, and we’re pretty impressed with what it packs at that ideal pricing.

And to make it more interesting, we got the cheapest “entry-level” Aveo5 for this Group Test – to see whether its affordable price is good enough to undercut the other two Japanese contenders.

Good response and support from Angie at One Shift when I wanted to sell off my old Camry which was due to be scrapped in early February. Would recommend this platform for those wanting to buy or sell their cars.
