The replacement model is imminent but there’s no stopping the current Golf from gaining even more fans thanks to its new engine and gearbox

Introduction

The Volkswagen Golf is proof that the design and styling of a family car can be timeless and somewhat iconic as well. Since its inception in 1974, Europe’s favourite perennial hatchback has managed to retain the original version’s styling ethos and themes even up till today’s fifth generation version.

The current Golf has been around since 2003 and the next model has just been revealed, but its looks are as fresh as on the day it first rolled out to the public at the 2003 Frankfurt Motor Show. The Mk V is one of the rare modern cars that hasn’t gone through a noticeable facelift throughout its product cycle.

Since there wasn’t any facelift, we’re pretty sure you’re wondering “why is there another Mk V Golf review here?” Right?

Well, this time it is the bits under the hood that really matters – the Mk V has just been given a new engine and a gearbox. This new power train is important in the sense that it will not only power the Mk VI, but also features some new technology.

Sold my car withing a few days. Fast process. However, be ready for dealers to slash price saying need to change tyre, need to repaint, etc during viewing.
