Mazda 6 2.0 R SDN Review
Version 2.0

If you've been thinking of upgrading to a 2.0-litre sedan and am unsure what to get, perhaps the Mazda 6 is a car worth checking. Really.

Looking good

So you’ve been driving a 1.6-litre or even perhaps a 1.8-litre car for the past few years.  Before all this economic turmoil, you’ve managed to put away enough savings - for an upgrade to a 2.0-litre car.  Well, as you consider your options, we think it’s time to also take a good look at Mazda’s less-known offering.

The new Mazda 6 has been around for quite some time now, and definitely has a lot going for it.  Last generation’s car was a great drive, but it was also frowned upon for having less interior space than its counterparts.  Not so with this new car though - one look at its large body and there’s an immediate sense that passenger room is not going to be an issue.

Compared to its larger 2.5-litre sibling, the base 2.0-litre model wears smaller 16-inch alloys with 205/60 R-16 Bridgestone Turanza tyres, while the 2.5-litre model comes with 18-inch alloys with 225/45 R-18 Bridgestone Potenza tyres. However, should you choose the 2.0 R Sport version (tested here), the car will be equipped with more appropriate 17-inch rims that have 215/50 R-17 rubber wrapped around them.  The R version also comes with a sportier front grille, HID headlamps, and a boot-mounted lip spoiler.  Having driven both V and R models back to back, I have to say that overall, the R version is more aesthetically pleasing than the lowest end V model.
