The outgoing Cefiro is actually the old Teana. Confusing? Well you see, the previous –and also the first – generation Teana is sold under different names, depending on the market. In its motherland and a few other Asian markets, it is “Teana”. For other Asian markets including Singapore as well as Latin America and Caribbean, it is the “Cefiro”. While for Australia and New Zealand, it is “Maxima”.
For the new second generation Teana, Nissan has decided to drop the long-running Cefiro badge and adopt its original name for Singapore, so as to be in line with the Japanese version. And the new car was launched at the Singapore Turf Club last month.
Available in 2.0-litre, 2.5-litre and range-topping 3.5-litre guises, this flagship luxury sedan not only features an all-new platform underneath its elegant bodywork, but also several new and innovative features.
Bearing a strong resemblance to its predecessor, the exterior styling of the new Teana is a strong indication that the car is designed more for relaxed cruising than sporty driving. Up front, a large, bold yet classy grille, finished in chrome, sits between the pair of vertically elongated headlamps. The front bumper houses three air inlets, the outer two incorporating the front fog lamps and also topped off with chrome embellishments.
Along its sides, the Teana features a strong design line that arcs gently from the front to the rear of the car. The swooping window line, finished in chrome, hint at the roominess of the cabin. Chrome mouldings at the lower part of the doors serve to emphasise the length of the wheelbase.
At the rear, both the tapered LED tail lights and the bulbous rear bumper aid to create an illusion of width and a sense of solidarity for this Japanese luxury sedan respectively.
