Porsche 911 Carrera S PDK 3.8 Review
911 reinvented

The 911 from Porsche has always been an iconic sports car. It was recently updated, outside and especially inside

Developed as a larger and more powerful replacement for the Porsche 356, the 911 made its world debut in 1963. With its distinctive yet timeless design, renowned performance and its notable rear mounted engine configuration, it has endeared itself to countless sports car fans all over the world.

The unique rear-engine, rear-wheel drive layout of the 911, carried over from the later 356s, gave this sports car a (dangerous) tendency to break into oversteer abruptly when excessive throttle is applied while in corners, thereby earning for itself a fearsome reputation. So much so that enthusiastic drivers prided themselves on being able to “tame” a 911.

In order to cater to a wider audience, the 911 has undergone continuous development since then, especially in the handling department, making the car less demanding of the driver. With every new generation, the car becomes more powerful but yet, more user-friendly.

Currently into its fifth generation, the 911 is also known internally as “Type 997”. Having been launched back in 2004, it is no wonder that Porsche has decided to give its core model a much-needed facelift.

Unless you are a true-blue Porsche-phile, there is almost no way that you will notice the slightly redesigned air inlets on the front bumpers and the restyled rear valance on the rear bumper. Even when parked side by side with the outgoing model, you would have to be eagle-eyed to pick them out.

At night, the “new” 911 is more noticeably differentiated, thanks to its new LED daytime running lights at the front and the LED tail lights with its striking design. The former is especially bright - even in broad daylight.

Other changes include new wheel designs, high-quality coating for the inside of the headlamps as well as slightly larger wing mirrors.
