Nissan Sylphy 2.0 CVT Review
Smooth and Sylphy

Looking for a true-blue Japanese sedan that's priced below $85k? This answers your question...

At a glance

When the Sylphy was first launched, it was somewhat of an oddity. It’s not a compact car, but it doesn’t belong in the mid-sized category either. I suppose it was made to create (or plug a gap in) a niche market. But what makes this car a common sight on our roads?  That’s exactly what we sought to discover during our road test.

The Sylphy possesses that Cefiro-esque styling which, at first glance, would have untrained eyes thinking it was one. You can’t blame them though - that front grille and those headlights are a dead ringer for its larger sibling. And with those door handles, heavyset rear end and that familiar “kink” in the rear windows, it's no wonder the Sylphy bears such a striking resemblance to the Cefiro.

It’s hardly surprising then, that most folks think that this car is a Cefiro Jr. With a length of 4,610mm, the Sylphy’s size is substantial. But even when standing next to one, it really doesn’t seem so large – which is a good thing, for it means that this car hides its bulk well.

The Sylphy’s front fascia and flanks may be Cefiro-derived, but its rear end is its own. We liked the 16-inch alloy wheels that come with every 2.0-liter model, but were disappointed upon seeing the drum brakes peeking out at us from the rear wheels, as they’re the last thing we expect to see in a car of this class. At least on the Latio, they’re more forgivable.

Good response and support from Angie at One Shift when I wanted to sell off my old Camry which was due to be scrapped in early February. Would recommend this platform for those wanting to buy or sell their cars.
