Oneshift.com COTY 2008 judges, in clockwise direction - Azfar Hashim, C.K Lim, Colin Choo, Jarvis Seo and Jeremy Chua. Not in picture is Raymond Lai (picture taken by Jegan D.)
There’s only so much we can do, but at the end of it all, it is your votes that determined the ultimate winner in Oneshift.com’s Car of the Year 2008. And after carefully tabulating your votes and adding it up to the judges’, painstakingly, we finally have ourselves a winner – the Audi A4 1.8 TFSI.
Which is quite a surprise actually, as we were anticipating a majority vote for a Japanese make instead.
But then again in these tough times, many are surely looking out for the best bargain around, without a single compromise in brand. The A4, what it delivers, is everything most car buyers could ever ask for their motoring needs. It’s no hot stuff, you can’t deny that, but somehow it delivers practicality, road presence and most importantly, prestige. Plus, how can you forget that roomy cabin, cavernous boot space, enthusiastic handling and 160bhp 4-cylinder turbocharged engine mated to what must be the current automotive technological marvel, an 8-speed CVT gearbox? The 250Nm of torque, which comes in from as early as 1,500rpm, ensures that the A4 has no problem hauling the 1,410kg car around our constantly busy roads. Out on the expressway, the A4 is a wonderful cruiser, with no problems keeping up with traffic or charging down the fastest lane. Ahh…the advantage of forced-induction!
Also, check this out – a quick check in our user’s database revealed that the A4 averages 15.6km/L. A very respectable figure for a car this size.
We’re sure, if pitted against the Mercedes-Benz C180 Kompressor and BMW 320i – yes, the other Germans – the A4 will still come up tops. Why so? Well, consider this – it’s wider and longer, and has a bigger wheelbase when compared to the C180 and 320i. Not only that, the A4’s 160 horses are still 4bhp more than the C180, and a significant 10bhp more than the 320i. Pricing wise, although the A4 is slightly pricier than both, the good stuff it promises and could also deliver easily justifies it.
So are these reasons enough for you, as to why the Audi A4 1.8 TFSI came up as the overall Car of the Year? Well we think these are valid. And from your votes, you think so too. Congratulations Audi, what you have here is a car that really appeals.
Hence we present to you, our winner…
