CitroŽn C5 Comfort 2.0 Review
The real deal

So how does the C5 fare in a 2.0-litre, four-cylinder guise?

Citroen C5

These days, most manufacturers offer at least two engine variants for its large family car example. Take the hugely popular Toyota Camry for a case study - the perennial Japanese model can be had in either 2.0-litre or 2.4-litre forms.

Thanks to our road tax structure, the more popular of the two Camry models is certainly the smaller-engined and less equipped 2.0-litre version.

Like the Camry, the Citroen C5 is also offered here with two engine variants. The top of the range model is powered by a 3.0-litre V6, while the base models are 2.0-litre, with two less cylinders. While no one would mind having a creamy V6 that displaces 3.0-litres, the 2.0-litre is certainly a more realistic option - after all, road tax is more affordable.

So how does the more "realistic" 2.0-litre C5 fare then?

On the outside, there's little to differentiate the smaller engined model from the range topping V6. Visual clues to the 2.0-litre include smaller, 17-inch alloys and the badges at the rear. The smaller alloys do not fill the arches as convincingly as the 18-inch ones on the 3.0-litre, but the C5 is still one handsome looking saloon nonetheless.

Details like the concave rear windscreen and double-chevron front grille marks the C5 out from the more popular Japanese models.

Inside, the base model features the same, stylish cabin as the 3.0-litre model's but with slightly less luxuries. Notable differences include a monotone screen for the trip computer display in the middle of the speedometer.

Like its exterior, the C5's interior features nice design details as well like the fixed hub steering wheel and unique instruments.

At the rear, passenger room is reasonably spacious. The rear seat bench is plush and comfortable, although it can do with a bit more under thigh support. The boot is reasonably sized, but access will be much improved with a hatchback tailgate rather than a saloon style rear end.
