Nissan Teana 200 XL

Ever had one of those lazy days where you just can't be bothered to get your butt off the couch and do a single thing, except to go to the bathroom? Take a public holiday for example - you're mostly free from the stresses of your job, and would like nothing more than to spend the day as a couch potato.

So you wake up late and plop yourself down on your favorite spot on the sofa. You can't even be bothered to microwave the leftovers in the fridge, so you pick up the phone and order a pizza instead. You're just about ready to spend the day either watching DVDs or playing video games...when you suddenly hear your wife go, "Honey! Don't forget to drive the kids to their piano lessons later! You promised to do that last week!"

And you can't say no because she's your wife. Saying "no" now could end up with you sleeping on that couch tonight. Your video games, (or worse, your girly magazines) might just go missing. Out of devotion (or perhaps lack of choice in the matter), you resign yourself to having to go out and drive today.

"I wish driving my car felt the same as lounging in my favorite recliner", you sigh...


Just like the Teana 250 XV we tested earlier, the 200 XL variant also sits on an entirely new platform - despite looking quite similar to the Cefiro it replaced.

The 200 XL and the 250 XV look very much alike exterior-wise, save for two details - at first glance, it seems like both models have the same amount of chrome. The 200 XL however, doesn't seem to have as much chrome surrounding its windows.

Look carefully and you'll also see past the similarity of both models' alloy wheels. The 250 XV rides on 17-inch alloys with a much sharper design, while the 200 XL here makes do with 16-inch. There are no pretentious body kits or any "sporty" embellishments to be found here - this car's no athlete, and it's not ashamed to say so.

Other than the differing badges found on the boot, most people won't be able to tell these two models apart. The 200 XL might be the base model in the Teana range, but it sure doesn't look like it from the outside.
