Audi S4 3.0 TFSI quattro S Tronic Review
Big blow

With the arrival of the S4 and its S4 Avant estate cousin, the wait fot a hot Audi A4 is finally over.

Wolf in sheep's clothing

Ever tightening emissions laws means car manufacturers have to find new ways to satisfy the power hungry. So instead of screaming V10s, large burbling V8s and crazy V12s, we’ll have smaller capacity engines with less cylinders that feature some form of forced aspiration. Downsizing is the way to go these days when it comes to engines.

Audi is one brand that has started to introduce smaller but force fed engines to its range. It offers several models with engines that are turbocharged, supercharged or even twincharged. The latest Audi model to follow this trend is the performance version of the latest generation a4 – the S4.

The last generation S4 was powered by Audi’s venerable 4.2-litre V8 (you can still find this engine in the S5 coupe but Audi is slowly phasing it out.). The new S4 is a totally different animal on the engine front. Instead of a V8, powering the new model’s four wheels is a supercharged 3-litre V6.

Like the regular 1.8 TFSI, 2.0 TFSI and 3.2 quattro A4 models, the S4 is availabli in both four-door saloon and Avant estate body styles, the latter is the model tested here.

Externally, the S4 is a pretty discreet looking machine. There are the usual S style enhancements on the outside like the grey coloured inserts on the egg crate grille, the aluminium look side mirror covers, quad exhaust tail pipes and so on in addition to  the S4 badges on the bootlid and front grille, the V6 T badge on the front wings, the fat alloys and the LED tail lamps but you might still mistake it for a S-line aero kit equipped A4 3.2 quattro if you take just a quick glance at it. The Avant model here looks even more discreet than the saloon model in my opinion even though the car here wears optional RS 4 style 19-inch double spoke alloys that look nothing short of gorgeous (and not to mention, kerb unfriendly!).

Angie from swiftquote was super efficient, friendly and patient. The bids from swiftquote's dealers are also much higher compared to what agents and dealers would buy in your car.
