Ever since the first generation model rolled out 20 years ago, there’s always been a turbocharged Legacy model. Remember the Legacy RS from the early 1990s? It was the ultimate sleeper performance saloon even though it competed in the World Rally Championship during the weekends before the Impreza was conceived.
While the Impreza WRX won rallies and championships for Subaru and became the brand’s halo model, the turbocharged Legacy soldiered on over its next few iterations as a big brother to the WRX and catered to those who prefer something more practical and a tad more sedated than the hyper WRX and its STI cousin.
The recent launch of the fifth generation Legacy means the introduction of a new turbocharged GT variant. Like previously, the GT is available in both four-door sedan and Wagon body styles. While the Wagon is preferred by lifestyle types, the sedan is the choice for the family man who is in a hurry more often than not.
Dimensionally, the new sedan is longer, taller and wider than the old car. The overall styling of the car is an evolution of the old model’s even though the Subaru designers tried to add some spice into the looks with the new shapely headlamps with intricate details on the lenses and the blistered wheel arches. The rear is a tad ubiquitous though thanks to the unimaginative tail lamp design that seem to mimic Toyota/Lexus models.
The new four-door Legacy is not exactly a pretty car overall – a Mazda6 looks more dynamic and sporty looking while the Honda Accord looks more elegant, but at least it is not as ungainly looking as some of Subaru’s recent efforts.
Prompt and Fast. Service officer Muhd Yazid was very helpful in guiding the sales, and when urgent assistance is required! Kudos to officer for being able to address all queries.
