Mercedes-Benz A-Class A45 AMG Review
Flagship rebel

It’s hard not to think that Mercedes-Benz have spent the better part of this year carefully orchestrating the buildup to the launch of their flagship A-class. They first teased us with the entry-level A200 earlier in the year that impressed with its performance potential.

While its 1.6-litre four cylinder gave us quite a chuckle, we felt that the new A-class platform could handle a lot more than it was given. Our prayers were answered when the A250 Sport was introduced.

And it gave us further insight into what Mercedes-Benz had in store for us later in the year. The mid-level A-class packed a powerful 2.0-litre four cylinder that delivered punchy mid-range torque that sent a cold chill down the backs of GTI owners.

Now, the heir to the AMG hot hatch throne has finally arrived to much hype. Why you ask? Well, despite their long illustrious history with automobiles, this is the first time that Mercedes-Benz has built anything this small with this much dynamism.

The new A-class platform was a seismic shift away from the unwieldy first generation. Naturally, failing the elk test was the end of any further discussion for a performance model.

Thus, this A 45 AMG is crucial not just for Mercedes-Benz but for their motorsports AMG division as well.

The A 45 AMG is the company’s shift to pitch the revered badge to a much larger audience. Following the general aim of the A-class, the A45 AMG will see a younger clientele than was previously possible with the much more exclusive and higher-priced V8 monsters.
