Introduction, Exterior

We tested the Peugeot 208 last year and loved it for its nippy handling despite its humble diesel engine under the bonnet. But while we loved the super mini for its cutesy looks and handling, it sorely lacked in practical space.

Peugeot have heard us and they’ve recently introduced a natural evolution of the 208. Typical of its larger models, adding an additional ‘0’ in the model name means greater space and practicality. Retaining the same wheelbase but improving in interior space, the 2008 still shares much of its running gear with the smaller hatch which means its nippy handling should be intact.

From the outside, the mini-SUV looks like a beefed up version of its hatchback sibling. But it still takes much of its design cues from its smaller sibling. It shares the same stretched headlamp arrangement with the hatch though the front fascia seems less elegantly designed as compared to the hatch.

And like the hatch, the 2008 gets a generous helping of bling via chrome trim around the grille. Large chunky impact bring to bear its SUV status.

Part of that exercise also gave the 2008 a raised ride height over the hatch. Even the roofline was raised to accommodate decently sized humans in the back. A pair of roof rails are standard for the outdoorsy types to mount a myriad of items on the roof.
