Chevrolet Spark 1.0 Review
Light up your life

Introduction, Interior

There’s something vastly appealing about a simple, fuss-free car. Modern cars now can, to much chagrin, switch off their engines automatically at the lights, or more usefully, vibrate the steering wheel if you stray off your lane.

The Chevrolet Spark, naturally, does none of this. It’s the cheapest car you can buy from Chevrolet in Singapore, and it’s built from ground up to be a basic, fuel-efficient city car. Which in theory means that the Spark will be superbly ideal for Singapore’s largely urban environs.

And it is. Being right in its element, the Spark feels excellent navigating its way through slow-moving traffic. It’s small, measuring just 3.59 metres bumper to bumper, so its footprint on the road is mercifully tiny. Yet that doesn’t mean intruding into interior space. Passengers in both front and rear rows will find that they have more space than they imagine, thanks to an upright dash that frees up legroom up front, and a flat floor at the rear. Perhaps what is not so great is the boot space, which will not be able to fit luggages for four for a long road trip. The rear seats will fold completely to the floor, but it requires a removal of the bottom seat cushions which seems more fussy than usual. As a whole, however, the Spark has more than sufficient space for the grocery or school run, which is the primary remit of this car.
