Nissan Qashqai 2.0 Premium Review
Right priced SUV

Introduction, Exterior

Envisioned for the European market, the Nissan Qashqai was thrust into direct competition with other European brands that boasted better build quality and performance. Not to be outdone, the Qashqai crossover offered much of those qualities but at an even better price which explained why they sold as many as they did.

Compared to their off roading SUVs, the crossover is more on-road but benefits from better driving dynamics of their on-road chassis. This also translates to better comfort than other brutish SUVs but the driver and passengers still enjoy the commanding view and spaciousness of one. So does the new Qashqai tick all the right boxes for a crossover?

Like the Toyota Auris, the new Qashqai benefits from an Anglo-Japanese partnership that combines European design flair with the efficiency and reliability of Japanese engineering.

This collaboration with European design seemed to have ticked the right boxes as the new Qashqai looks like a breath of fresh air over the last model. The new car appears lower and sleeker with a less bulky design despite being 20mm wider and 50mm longer than the car it replaces.

The combination of powerful curves and muscular wheel arches create a sense of excitement that was missing in the previous model. A raised bonnet and a ride height lowered by 15mm creates an even sportier look. An impression further outlined by its set of bright energy efficient LED headlights that uses 50% less energy than Xenons. Not just for show, these lights are actually more practical than traditional Xenons that require a longer time to warm up and the light produced is also whiter.

The entire body flows well with its crossover image and makes it appealing to drivers regardless of age but particularly to the young executives with its svelte athletic body. Being the only SUV to come with beautiful 19-inch alloys as standard equipment, this crossover is starting to look rather appealing.
