The Volkswagen Golf has been a dominant force in the hatchback segment for the last couple of years. So much so that often it overshadows its rivals in the segment. With the new Peugeot 308, the French are coming back having learnt a thing or two from the Germans.
Peugeot improved the new hatch from the ground up with a new chassis. What they call the EMP2 which it shares with the new Citroen C4 Picasso. Peugeot followed a mantra of light weight when they designed the hatch.
Made with a combination of steel, composites and aluminum, the car weighs 140kgs less than the one it replaces. Even the tailgate is made from a special Thermoplastic material that shaves another 3kgs off. What this adds up to is a hatch that at 1150kg is one of the lightest in its class.
And the effects of this frenetic devotion to lightweight is obvious once on the road. Although powered by a modest 1.2-litre turbocharged engine, the 129bhp and 230Nm of torque seems plenty when paired with the car’s lightweight.
Good follow up by Customer Service. Also recommended nice dealer, Smooth transaction. Happy overall.
