Porsche Cayenne S Review

Finding a German SUV on the backpages of a new car classifieds isn’t rare but finding one that isn’t a bear to handle is much rarer. More so back in 2002 before the Cayenne came along. When Porsche claimed they could put sports car handling into the 2.5 ton behemoth, the automotive world mocked the brand for its naivety and thinking it could overcome Newton’s laws by sheer will.

Porsche had the last laugh though. When launched, the large SUV became an overnight sales success and bolstered the balance sheet as Porsche had intended so that they could continue building the 911. And has become the halo model that enables the existence of the more dynamic models by sheer virtue of its sales volume and profits it generates for Stuttgart.

So successful is the large SUV that it inspired Porsche to take a stab at the mid-size SUV market with their latest Macan model line.

Although a GT3 fan myself, the Cayenne should be a natural nemesis for the passion I have for its more capable brethren. But once settled behind the wheel, it starts becoming increasing hard to loathe the beast.
