Porsche 911 Targa 4 PDK Review

Story and Photos by Benjamin G. Kline

The Targa is to the 911 what the Beetle cabriolet is to the Beetle. An icon created within an icon, the Targa is one of the most iconic body styles for the 911 since the first generation launched in 1967. It’s sort of a compromise between a full topless experience and the safety of a coupe.

Identified by its distinctive fixed roll over hoop, the new model harks back to the original Targa that featured a roof panel that had to be removed manually. Of course having spent more than half a million on the current 991 model, it wouldn’t look good on Porsche to still expect you to do any manual labour.

The new roof is a fully electric operation and a complex one at that. The entire rear windscreen lifts itself out of the way for the cloth roof to fold neatly behind the Targa hoop. The whole ballet takes 19 seconds to complete and can only be done when the car is at a standstill which can pose a bit of an inconvenience if the heavens decide to open up without warning.

Sold my car withing a few days. Fast process. However, be ready for dealers to slash price saying need to change tyre, need to repaint, etc during viewing.

I did receive the best quote out of 5 enquiries I sent. It was the inspection and quick deposit that sealed the deal. All in, it was a pleasant experience compared to the other merchants available. Keep up the good work!
