Besides having an excellent safety record, Volvos in the past were known for their rather thirsty nature as well. Often remarked to have the sturdiness of a tank, it weighs like one too which contributed to its thirsty nature.
But Volvo has come a long way as demonstrated by their super-efficient V40 and S60 D2s. The future for the brand revolves around the four cylinder engines which we previewed in the XC60 Drive-e. Rather than fiddle with different capacities and engine architecture, the Swedes have chosen to instead concentrate on improving the engine’s efficiency through turbo charging. Electric motors will also be used in a hybrid set up to supplement the smaller capacity to produce power figures comparable to V8 petrol engines.
The highly anticipated XC90 to be launched later this year will be the biggest demonstrator of the brand’s new direction. The range topping model will have around 400bhp using a combination of supercharger, turbochargers and electric motors to achieve that figure from a 2.0-litre engine.
In the mean-time however, the S60 is the latest beneficiary of this new direction. And like the XC60 Drive-e model, the combination of the uprated engine and the 8-speed auto has upped the sexiness of this four door sedan further. Power is now 245bhp over the older car’s 203bhp and torque is now 350Nm from just 1,500rpm.
Prompt and Fast. Service officer Muhd Yazid was very helpful in guiding the sales, and when urgent assistance is required! Kudos to officer for being able to address all queries.
